Director's Profile

Dr. R. M. Tungare is presently the Director of Late Narayan Meghaji Lokhande Maharashtra Institute of Labour Studies, (Government of Maharashtra), Parel, Mumbai – 12. This is a State level Institute devoted to education, training and research in the field of Labour studies.

He is M.A. (Economics), M.B.A. and Ph.D. (Economics). He was awarded teacher fellowship by University Grants Commission, New Delhi for Completion of his Ph.D. He received Merit Scholarship from the Maharashtra State up to his graduation.

Dr. Tungare was on the Board of College Development Council University of Mumbai during 1981 – 82 and 1982 – 83. The College Development Council is the body which looks after the development aspects of colleges affiliated to the University. In the year 2011 he has been nominated as the Governor’s nominee on the Senate of University of Mumbai.

He was the recognized guide for Ph.D. in Commerce Management and Economics, Shivaji University, Kolhapur. Then he guided 12 students for M.Phill and 7 students for Ph.D. He also successfully guided two candidates for Ph.D. in Labour Studies, University of Mumbai. He is also the recognized guide for Ph.D. of YCMOU i.e. Yashavantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University. He was on the recognition committee for Ph.D. guides of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University.

He served as member of various statutory Boards of various Universities including the Ad-hoc Board in Labour Studies (University of Mumbai), Academic audit committee Department of Commerce, Pune University, Ad - hoc Board in Management Studies (SNDT University), and Board of Studies in Banking & Finance (Shivaji University). He attended the first Leadership Development Programme in Economics of Mumbai University sponsored by UGC. He also attended the Programme on Gender Relational Frame work for top Government officers at YASHADA (Pune), sponsored by the Ministry of Personnel and Training Government of India.

Dr. Tungare attended the World Economic Congress, New Delhi in 1986 and made presentation in the session on Industry. His current areas of interest are Development Economics, Labour Economics.
